November is Picture Book Month!

A fantastic group has teamed up to declare November Picture Book Month. What does that even mean? You can find out at their website for the project, which will feature a new essay from a picture book champion every day in November. This site also features great links to activities, author and illustrator blogs/websites, and some kidlit bloggers as well. Seriously, check it out. It's no accident I provided the link twice already in this post.

This endeavor is brought to us by Dianne de Las Casas, Katie Davis, Elizabeth O. Dulemba, Tara Lazar, and Wendy Martin

If you're thinking this might be just a silly little website created by a group of picture book authors and illustrators that won't ultimately garner any attention or make any difference, let me point out that this effort has been featured in the Children's News section of Publishers Weekly and at School Library Journal. And Scholastic is an official partner of National Picture Book Month!

I know what I'll be adding to my morning Web crawl during the month of November!

And writers, don't forget: November is also Picture Book Idea Month (PiBoIdMo)!

Don't miss the fabulous guest bloggers and literary agents participating in that effort either!

** Apologies for the abundance of exclamation points in this post, but this is a lot of shout-worthy stuff, y'all!

  1. Shelli, thanks for the shout out! Picture Book Month will feature amazing essays about the importance of picture books by such great picture book champions as Jane Yolen, Eric A. Kimmel, Suzanne Bloom, David Ezra Stein, Dan Yaccarino, Michelle Knudsen and more. It's going to be an incredible party! Read * Share * Celebrate!

  2. Dianne, you're so welcome. I'm looking forward to the posts!
